THE WAR ON DRUGS
On their debut, the life-affirming Wagonwheel Blues, and the follow-up EP, Future Weather, Philly’s The War on Drugs seemed obsessed with disparate ideas, with building uncompromised rock monuments from pieces that may have seemed like odd pairs. Folk-rock marathons come damaged by drum machines. Electronic and instrumental reprises precede songs they’ve yet to play, and Dr. Seuss becomes lyrical motivation for bold futuristic visions. Now having released Slave Ambient, their second album proper, Granduciel has done it again, better than before: with a brilliant 47-minute sprawl of rock ‘n’ roll, conceptualized with a sense of adventure and captured with seasons of bravado.

This london 5 piece bring art school indie stylings and dancefloor friendly tunes crashing together, all the while sounding familiar and yet fresh and new.
Recently signed to legendary label Kitsune, they're first couple of singles 'True Romance' and 'Reptile' have had the music press falling over themselves to get at the band and consequently found themselves on more "tipped for 2012" lists than we've had hot dinners. It wont harm them that they have a mentor in Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), who has been shouting about this band from the rooftops for a while now, and is even producing their records. Catch this band in an intimate venue while you can because its going to be a huge year for these lads.

PHANTOM LIMB
Phantom Limb are an unusual musical prospect, drawing together a range of different sounds and experiences. By day, various members of the group have earned their crust as session musicians, vocalists and songwriters, skirting round the edges of the industry. A glance at their collective musical CV would list collaborations with everyone from Pee Wee Ellis and Percy Sledge to Tom Jones. Charismatic lead singer Yolanda Quartey, who has sung lead spots withNitinSawhney and Chase & Status, spent the summer of 2008 touring with Massive Attack, written for Will Young and performed backing vocals for Adele and Dizzee Rascal. By Yolanda’s own admission, though, the band has found it hard remaining in the shadows. “You’re supposed to be able to shrink back,” as she puts it. “I’ve had to play down my voice, and that’s the worst thing, actually.”
Having met by chance amidst these workmanlike sessions, Phantom Limb formed in 2004, and released their self-titled debut album in 2008. Yet it is with their second offering - The Pines - that you sense they’re truly stepping out to the front of the stage. The Pines is an assured, well-studied and heartfelt record, absorbing an array of classic influences. Musically, the songs stand at the crossroads between Country and classic R&B, which – from Ray Charles’ country albums to The Staple Singers fronting The Band – still feelsrelatively unexplored. Yet as Yolanda succinctly puts it, “Country and gospel are the same, just with different race singers.” The skill of Phantom Limb lies in their ability to assimilate these seemingly-disparate influences in a manner that feels effortless and idiosyncratic.
The phenomenal new video for "The Pines" can be viewed here.

TO KILL A KING
Leeds natives To Kill A King wear their emotions heavily upon their shirt sleeves. Frontman and prime songwriter Ralph Pelleymounter formed the skeletal frame of To Kill A King at university in Leeds with friends Ian Dudfield and Josh Platman before completing the current line-up when they moved down to London at the tail end of 2009.
Ralph and To Kill A King wanted to make music that mattered. Citing literary greats such as Dylan Thomas, and the NYC beat-poet era of Allen Ginsberg alongside musical reference points like Grizzly Bear and Mystery Jets, the band place equal emphasis on both melody and lyrics.
Blogged about almost as soon as they had started layering songs to 8-track, there’s an immediacy and melodrama to their first recordings that shoots straight for the heart. With its vastness of multi-tracked, guitar heavy sound, debut 'Fictional State’ is a devastatingly assured introduction to the band.

FUNERAL SUITS
Funeral Suits are a four-piece from Ireland consisting of Brian James, Mik McKeogh, Greg McCarthy and Dar Grant. The music they make is expansive without being overblown, heavy without being menacing and all the more thrilling for its restraint. Funeral Suits debut UK single ‘Colour Fade’ was released on May 29 through Friends vs Records.
A shared love of epic, distorted guitars, blistering harmonius pop, art rock and
electronica led to the band spending the best part of two years holed up in a disused office space in deepest North County Dublin, writing, rehearsing and at times venturing out to play as special guests for Franz Ferdinand, Passion Pit, The Maccabees, Local Natives amongst others.
Funeral Suits have recorded and finished their debut album with acclaimed producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) which is due to be released Spring 2012.
Funeral Suits first single ‘Colour Fade’ has already enjoyed support from BBC Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens. ‘Colour Fade’ is a song reflective of the trio’s hedonistic adolescence and burning passion to escape Dublin whilst hinting at big things to come from their full length.
‘Health’ is the bands current single taken from their as yet un-named debut.
March 5th 2012 sees the band release their third single 'All Those Friendly People'

SHEARWATER
It’s been suggested—by fans, detractors, even by the band’s founder—that Shearwater and whatever we call underground/indie/whatever-rock in this part of the century are not an obvious fit. And that’s true. So much of what we hear these days (the lousy stuff, anyway) is willfully insular; Jonathan Meiburg’s songs, by contrast, have constantly tackled bigger questions and been propelled by massive musical ambitions.
Though it’s possibly a wild projection to claim a few years of bouncing through various band lineups, record labels and places of residence have led to a radical reboot, Shearwater are big believers in citing circumstantial evidence and letting the jury figure it out for themselves. Just give ’em the fucking Grammy already!

This spring the incredible NINA NASTASIA will be returning to the UK for a select number of intimate appearances to road-test new material for the follow up to her critically acclaimed album ‘Outlaster’.
Nina Nastasia's rare gift of voice is an intimate, winged presence that is able to either freeze or melt your heart; that can powerfully soar and twist, or brush ultra-gently against you, suddenly summoning goose bumps. Mojo commented on its ability to "suck the air out of the room". Picking over themes of love, longing and loss, childhood, dreams and human dramas, her beautifully concise, hook-laden songwriting and the spare arrangements of her band have a certain gritty, rustic charm and intensity. Simultaneously tough and fragile, her songs crackle and smolder with an intimate emotional honesty and a dark undertow.

THE WAVE PICTURES
The highly demanded return of Moshi Moshi records, THE WAVE PICTURES!
Produced by the band, new album Long Black Cars also features star turns from Wave Pictures favourites Turner Cody and The WoWz and was inspired by topics as diverse as Humphrey Bogart, the story of Job and police brutality.
Frontman Dave Tattersall’s vocals are familiarly rich, warm and soulful, with bassist Franic Rozycki’s fretwork on fine form for stand out track Never Go Home Again. Accompanied by an unusually mournful arrangement that perfectly reverberates the song’s narrative about a couple on the run, the result is pure poetry through an almost elegiac solemnity.
Proceeding track My Head Gets Screwed On Tighter Every Year deals with the theme of family feuds - in it, a man addresses his long lost brother - and faces the reality that it is often those closest to you that one knows the least.
Elsewhere, standout track Eskimo Kiss features drummer Jonny ‘Huddersfield’ Helm’s first recorded vocal on a Wave Pictures album. “This song is very New York to me...a very enigmatic, dark and mysterious lyric, but still peppered with details of the everyday.” says Dave Tattersall. Concentrating on finding the beautiful moments in the everyday, Eskimo Kiss ponders the little things that keep life exciting.
It’s an overarching theme throughout Long Black Cars - “The point is not that it is interesting to sing about the mundane rather than the magical, but that we find the mundane magical: the everyday amazes me.” Explains Tattersall.
On this, their fourth album for Moshi Moshi, The Wave Pictures once again blend their perfect mixture of minor key ballads and characteristic rock’n’roll harmonies - the result is the ebullient, sardonic pop they’ve come to be cherished for.

CHELSEA WOLFE
2:54
For 2:54, everything comes from somewhere deep inside; that shared sisterly bond between Hannah and Colette Thurlow that manifests in their matching, messy hand gestures, the mirroring tattoos down their right arms, and their darkly triumphant, guitar-driven epics. Their relationship and the music they’ve been making together since they were teenagers are so intuitive that they struggle to describe it; but when they do, you know exactly what they mean.
Back in April they released the super limited edition, seven inch-only single ‘On A Wire’ through criminally hip label House Anxiety (The Big Pink, Zoo Kid), which was chosen by Radio 1’s Zane Lowe as his 'Next Hype' record of the week, beloved by indie champion Huw Stephens and even received breakthrough daytime plays by Fearne Cotton, as well as a session with XFM’s John Kennedy.
Not that there’s much danger of 2:54 sounding like anyone but themselves. Even after just a couple of singles their identity as a band is stronger than most who have years on them. Even if they can’t put it into words themselves. “As much as we can get away with not having to explain the songs,” laughs Hannah, “that’s how it should be. They should speak for themselves.”
CHELSEA WOLFE
California native Chelsea Wolfe has always embodied both light and dark. Yet though her music is a raw strain of electric folk tinted by black metal and deep blues, it never wallows in despair. Instead, it wraps itself like a thick blanket around the human experience, encouraging uplift, seeking triumph. Her voice is a haunting call, warm and lingering, and her lyrics acknowledge life’s obscure and melancholy moments in service to the unlikely truths and beauty they so often reveal. Her music exudes strength in the midst of adversity. It makes sense then that her influences run from Nick Cave and Selda Bagcan, to director Ingmar Bergman, with nods to the dramatic flair of Antony Hegarty, and even more so that she hails from the wilder, woodsy part of her state.

We are pleased to announce this special show from the critically acclaimed folk songstress, Laura Gibson.
Gibson’s previous work was praised for its timelessness, for the almost vintage quality of her voice. But of course her art and outlook aren’t solely influenced by the past. “I am someone who loves old things and could easily dwell in nostalgia,” she explains, “but I really felt this needed to be a statement about the future – about moving forward fearlessly – and I think the process of making the record and the finished album reflect that desire.”

Molded at a young age by the sounds of indie, new wave and industrial mix-tapes passed on by Dean’s elder sisters, Odonis Odonis harkens to The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pixies, Big Black and The Cure. Like a good post-modernist, however, these influences merely colour, but do not define Odonis Odonis.

GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS
Toronto indie-folk/rock darlings Great Lake Swimmers return to the UK to promote New Wild Everywhere, their fifth studio album and follow up to 2009’s Juno and Polaris-nominated album Lost Channels.
New Wild Everywhere captures all of the excitement and intuitive musicianship of a group at the peak of their creative powers, with 12 new tracks that reveal a depth and maturity only previously hinted at by lead singer and songwriter Tony Dekker. Produced by longtime Great Lake Swimmers’ collaborator Andy Magoffin, New Wild Everywhere marks the first time in the band’s history that an album was recorded in a real studio (Toronto’s Revolution Recording); past albums have been famously recorded in historic churches, castles, music venues and more.
“We wanted to try something new, expand our horizons, and flex a bit of the creative muscle we’ve built up through years of touring,” says Dekker. “It came as a bit of a surprise how well we functioned as a band in that [studio] environment. We were able to focus completely on the songs, rather than the logistical obstacles of waiting for the boat to dock, or the rain to stop.”
Featuring the touring band from Lost Channels (long-time collaborator Erik Arnesen on banjo and guitar, along with new addition Miranda Mulholland contributing backing vocals and violin, Bret Higgins on upright bass, and Lost Channels drummer Greg Millson), New Wild Everywhere thematically picks up where the previous album left off, exploring transcendence in the natural world to describe the universal themes of love, mortality and escape.
New single “Easy Come Easy Go” is available to stream on Soundcloud here.

SEA OF BEES
“As much as I love Wilco,” says the woman who calls herself Sea Of Bees, “I didn’t want to write another ‘I Am Trying To Break Your Heart’.”
Julie Ann Baenziger – everyone calls her Jules - is referring to her stunning new album, which goes by the distinctive and intriguing name of Orangefarben. It’s a classic break-up record that disobeys the usual break-up rules, where getting reacquainted with life in the single lane is a singularly maudlin and clothes-ripping experience. Despite this being her first relationship and a public declaration of love for another woman, there’s no wallowing in self-pity, in either words or music. As Jules recalls, “What happened wasn’t all miserable to me, so I also wanted to write about the things that were really special. I may have listened to some heart-wrenching music,” Jules confesses, “but I’m tired of misery.”
So expect as many declarations of the wonder of love and a journey of self-discovery as a wistful vein of regret at love’s passing. Expect beautiful songs over-brimming with hooks, as gutsy as they are intimate and delicate, rooted in the primary colours of guitar, bass and drums, but with marimba, strings and pedal steel in here too. From deliciously upbeat (“Girl”) to mellotron-lined mystery (“Smile”), from swarthy passion (“Alien”) to ambient and tranquil (“Grew”), the album sits comfortably with her primary influences (Bright Eyes, Sigur Rós, Joanna Newsom, Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk).

SLEEP PARTY PEOPLE
“I disguise the lyrics/vocals because I like it that way. I like the sound of it more than I like the fact that the lyrics should be undisguised. The sound is more important to me”.
Sleep Party People is the brainchild of Brian Batz, a Danish multi-instrumentalist with a boundless imagination.
Taking as inspiration the work of Boards Of Canada, David Lynch and Erik Satie, and some classic movie soundtracks, Batz found the sound of the old battered piano in his apartment, coupled with a freaky electronic alteration of his recorded voice, created an eerie, hypnotic sound.

BOWERBIRDS
The music of North Carolina's Bowerbirds has always seemed strangely eternal. Coruscated by Beth Tacular's bird song and Phil Moore's environmentalist empathy, it paints a pained portrait of love shrouded in doubt as perfectly as Cash, Dylan or Cohen ever have. These feel like more than songs; they feel like treasures.
But their recordings are made on the quick and the cheap, with nylon-stringed guitars, fiddle lines and drum patterns that became comfortable. You can imagine these songs as old stateside standards, because, really, that's how they sound--campfire anthems sung by a couple clinging to very deep love.
Now back with their third album on cult US label Dead Oceans; "The Clearing" is a bigger record, with bolder sounds and a broader scope. "Tuck The Darkness In" surges in its final two minutes with a wall of electric guitars and drums. "Hush" plays hide and seek with restless vibraphones, pianos and drums, Beth's voice again providing a core of resilience in an otherwise ominous atmosphere.

RED CITY RADIO
"In late 2005 I had given up on music. I was feeling uninspired and jaded celebrating my new found self pity with healthy doses of cynicism and bourbon. I even started to contemplate the unimaginable possibility of selling all of my musical gear in addition to my beloved vinyl collection. For no other reason than I thought I didn’t need it anymore. Then Dallas and I started Red City Radio.
This band is a result of four individuals coming together for their collective good. We’ve all fronted our own bands. We’ve all been stage center with guitar in hand belting out the songs we wrote at the show we booked, hoping to sell some shirts we designed. The difference now is that we as a collective are greater than the sum of our parts. We are all in, all of the time. No chief songwriter. No ego trips. No unilateral decisions. We are a unit, a machine, a brotherhood. And at the end of the day is there anyone else you would want to spend 50,000 miles on the road with? If you’re reading this you now know where we are coming from. And if you listen to our music you’ll know who we are. Cheers."

BROTHER ALI
For the first time in his life, Brother Ali has been enjoying some day-to-day stability. Gone is the turbulent marriage to his first wife, homelessness, and the associated drama—all of which Ali openly documented on his last LP, The Undisputed Truth.
His new album, Us, is a progression that will establish Brother Ali as one of Hip Hop’s most enduring figures. While maintaining his intimate approach to songwriting, Ali has broadened his focus to examine life through his relationships with those closest to him. The new direction allows Ali to venture through the strengths and flaws of the human condition, exploring the evils of slavery, drug abuse, rape and poverty as well as the beauty of love, family and redemption.

LOWER DENS
Swarming guitar fuzz, bass waves, Jana Hunter's voice, and insistent drum throbs are the core components of Baltimore's Lower Dens. Hunter, sometimes known for intimate, ghost-heavy weird-fi, is now writing and playing with a group that might get filed as new wave, or drone pop, or post-punk. With due deference to her solo work, we're very glad.
Lower Dens formed in 2009, when Hunter set about finding a full-time band. They spent the rest of the year sweating in attics and basements, and only stepped out of the shadows to do a quick tour and record.
Currently causing a fuss in the wake of myriad rave reviews for 2nd album "Nootropics", Lower Dens have been touring alongside the likes of Bear in Heaven, the Walkmen, Beach House, and Deerhunter, and will immediately appeal to all fans of the above.
Spare and yet teeming with sound and portent, Nootropics rewards attentive listening. "You have to be paying attention," Hunter says, "which is a lot to ask of people. But that's the way I like it."

We are extremely proud to announce this very special show from Epitaph Records' SET YOUR GOALS!

Set Your Goals will be performing in support of their latest album Burning At Both Ends, which was released in summer of 2011 via Epitaph Records.
Rock Sound UK (8/10) called it “anthemic” (..), with just the right blend of punk attitude and pop genius”. While Kerrang! stated that the band “have stepped up their game on this record, boasting some real songwriting chops”. According to Big Cheese (5/5), with this album the band have “reaffirmed their status as one of the best pop-punk bands around right now”.

THE MELVINS
For those who don't know:
The Melvins have been a band for over 25 years...
The Melvins have done a shit load of albums.... How many is a shit load? No one really knows.
The Melvins live in Los Angeles and it's understood in hip circles that the United States tilts left and anything covered in slime tends to slide straight out to California. If your sliding too fast when you slide into San Francisco you tend to glance off south and the real scum bags end up in Los Angeles where their skin dries into a Malibu Ken tan which most hipsters have to painstakingly remove with Easy Off oven cleaner.
We all love porn right? And with the intern et we've all become totally bored with porn. Bored out of our minds with easy access day and night internet porn.
The Melvins have four members.
King Buzzo... Longest surviving and only original member left. When they get around to replacing him there will be no original members!
Dale Crover... Long standing drummer and part time guitar player. Dale likes his booze in a High Ball glass.
Jared Warren... Bass player, singer and part time drama geek. Jared also plays in the band Big Business.
Coady Willis... Drummer. Coady has a funny story about trying to play a gig in leather pants. Ask him, it's funny as shit! Coady also plays drums in Big Business.
So there you have it!

INTRODUCING
We’re proud to welcome Introducing, who are back in town to recreate the sound of DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing.
‘From listening to the records, we just knew what to do.’
DJ Shadow‘s seminal Endtroducing album is considered by most to be uncoverable – but Introducing are not your average ‘covers’ band. The 1996 album inspired a generation. It made the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s first completely sampled album. Introducing take the whole thing full circle, and return those samples into live musicianship, in the image that DJ Shadow created them.
Introducing’s note-for-note nine-piece recreation has already been turning heads on the festival circuit. After their debut at Festinho in 2008, Radio 1′s Rob da Bank booked them for Camp Bestival and Bestival in 2009, shortly before Ireland’s Electric Picnic picked them up too. Matt Derbyshire, the brains behind the band, has a smile on his face. ‘It seems to be gathering momentum now,’ he says. ‘We’ve put a lot of work into it, so it’s great that it seems to be paying off. We have gone to great lengths to recreate the exact sounds used in the original. The most important thing about these albums we are recreating is the sonic content. Also, there are sometimes a lot of parts, so Mick (sax), Andy (Keys) and myself all have a keyboard to hand to play sounds. I think we’ve only got one loop in the whole set and the concept of any backing tracks were outlawed from day one!’
