OIB Records Shows

The Death Set
Lovvers
Lonely Ghosts

Monday 18th August
The Prince Albert, Brighton
48 Trafalgar Street, BN1 4ED
£5 advance / 8:00pm / Buy Tickets

Hot off the heels of the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Worldwide’ on Ninja Tune / Counter Records, The Death Set bring their spazzy electro-punk back to Brighton for one night of chaos. The band always choose to play at crowd level as to get everyone involved, so expect a riotous evening of flailing limbs, electro beats and searing punk rock. Support comes from new Witchita signings Lovvers, who make snotty, raw punk-rock that’s infected with demandingly danceable hooks. Second support is our very own post Help She Can’t Swim emo-core artist Lonely Ghosts who will be playing a very special show to commemorate the release of his debut album that week.

Ponytail
Gentle, Friendly

Friday 5th September
The Prince Albert, Brighton
48 Trafalgar Street, BN1 4ED
£5 advance / 8:00pm / Buy Tickets

Part of the Baltimore Whamcity artist collective (along with Dan Deacon), Ponytail are an American rock group formed in January 2005 through the off chance meeting of souls as chosen randomly by poet Jeremy Sigler. Knowing nothing of each other Ponytail first started their relationship as infants, with their first years being musically chaotic, feeding on exhaustion, border-lining on retardation, yet ultimately pop related. Through touring and sharing ideas with close musical friends the band began to hone their interests keeping the writing process as far from structured as possible, often creating huge amounts of tension but producing an extremely unique environment that is rarely seen in music. Musically, the band creates genre flipped music crossing the standard rock band aesthetic with the worlds of new age, ska, psychedelia, Afro-pop and concrete poetry. Much like the Animal Collective jamming with Deerhoof! Yes it’s that good!

Support comes from OIB Records faves Gentle, Friendly who are a two piece noise-pop outfit from Birmingham, England. What do they put in the water up there? First Fuck Buttons and now Gentle, Friendly, there are some seriously monged out kids in Brum! Combining driving hypnotic drums with delicate over-driven guitar harmonies, lo-fi almost twee vocals, and multi-layered tape noise, Gentle, Friendly create a beautiful racket which is all of their own. Like a fuzzy pop version of the Liars recording in Tim Hecker’s studio.

Yacht
Jacob’s Stories

Saturday 6th September
The Hope, Brighton
11-12 Queens Road, BN1 3WA
£6 advance / 8:00pm / Buy Tickets

To call YACHT a band is to dramatically miss the point, rather YACHT is the genre-and-meida-spanning life project of Jona Bechtolt, previously 50% of The Blow, Little Wings, and Devendra Banhart’s band. Bechtolt and new member Claire L. Evans (Weirdo Begeirdo, Thunder Sundress, The World Court) make anthemic power jams, play them backwards and soak them in nearly-psychedelic cherry cola. YACHT’s heart however is in his live shows: uncluttered, inspired sessions of damaged dance moves and synchronized crowd-waving, backed by constantly changing elements, PowerPoint presentations, audience Q&A sessions, and shamanistic video environments. “Being indie rock’s Timberland ain’t easy!” – VIBE Magazine

Support comes from Brighton’s finest folk-tronica troubadour Jacob’s Stories.
