THE KNIFE – SILENT SHOUT

by ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad’

This is truly the Knife at their darkest and most intimate. Building upon their previous albums vibrant electronica style Swedish brother and sister duo the Knife have achieved a new level of deranged, sinister and surreal excess.

The bleak sinister synth atmosphere is the fluid undercurrent to Karin’s inane electric unnerving vocal. Sure there are moments of danceable electro pop hidden in here but it’s their delicate balance of the insanely creepy and the immensely beautiful that drives this record. Take the albums opening track and current single ‘Silent Shout’ for example, this is a track built around a delicate droning bassline and fragile yet disjoined synth bleeping juxtaposed against a hellish choir of pitch-shifted voices chanting about their teeth falling out. Truly the soundtrack to a David Lynch masterpiece he’s never written.
