JESU - CONQUEROR (Hydra Head)

by Rich Colwill

Jesu need no introduction for true industrial fans and their latest offering sees them evolve their sound to the next level. The opener/title track has some great drone metal riffs with all sorts of weird electronics flowing underneath the organic instrumentation. In the past they may have had criticism for being repetitive, but I am convinced that this record will keep listeners interested throughout. The vocals are melodic in a not at all cheesy way and juxtapose nicely against the heaviness and power of the music. The tracks to lookout for on here are ‘Transfigure’ and ‘Medicine’. I find myself nodding my head throughout as Conqueror is just so damn addictive. One spin of this record is clearly not enough however, and like anything with integrity and balls this record needs time to grow and mature like a fine wine. A definite contender for album of the year already!
