by Muzzo Playing to a lo-fi ambient washed out video very reminiscent of the Velvet Underground,, appropriately projected on a badly duct-taped sheet, audiovisual duo ‘Belong’ play soundscape drone of the ‘Kranky’ variety. Going beyond traditional song structure ‘Belong’ create beautiful crescendos of feedbacked emotion, rich in texture and tone, which washes over you as you float away into the abyss of your unconscious thought. While occasionally bordering on the painfully euphoric end of the soundscape spectrum ‘Belong’ never quite cross that dangerous boundary into ‘inspirational mood music’, managing to retain an element of danger and unease as their sound teeters at breaking point. ‘Belong’ are one of those bands that you want to take home and listen to in a darkened room at 3am, not standing in a small sweaty room full of fashionistas waiting for the over hyped arrival of Ariel Pink. While I would have liked to have been able to bring you a full review of the kooky odd-ball sometime genius that is Ariel Pink, unfortunately after just 3 songs he threw a confrontational hissy fit and stormed off stage like the little prick that he is.
