Dead Meadow - Live at Brighton Audio
(
August ‘07)

Words: Bootleg Al

I remember the first time I ever got drunk. I ended up passing out in a field between two cars. When I came too I staggered back into the party and it felt as if someone had strapped two speakers to my head playing Sunn O))) at full volume as I was forced to carry a boulder chained to my neck in penance for my heinous crime of underage drinking. My mother always warned me of the dangers of alcohol. Oh how I failed thy. Needless to say I woke up the following morning vowing never to grace another sip of that sweet sweet amber nectar. Not even a Smirnoff Ice I told myself.

Of course if didn’t last and now over 10 years later I’m standing in the Brighton Audio club having my body battered and bruised as I get drunker than ever before on the music of Dead Meadow, I’m drowning in a sea of white noise and heavier-than-thou stoner rock. I make a quick break for the toilets and check my pupils. Dilated. Put simple, I’m fucked. But gone is the well of self-pity, replaced instead with a desire to pound my fists in the air and gurn my face off as another wash of sludge metal hits me, pow right in the kisser.
