Recently the cult
vinyl-only Olympia, Washington label ‘People
in a Position to Know’ released the second
part of the Casiotone for the Painfully Alone ‘Stay
the Same Never Change’ EPs.
Simply titled ‘STSNC Instrumentals’
this 7” is the counterpart to the ‘Town
Topic EP’ that we released a month or so back.
Already being huge fans of ‘People in a Position to Know’
(you know they did a marble swirl 8.375” Casiotone for the Painfully
Alone square vinyl release of Bruce Springsteen covers! Off the chain!)
we agreed that it would be a rad idea to trade some vinyl, so we did.
Therefore you can now order the ‘STSNC
Instrumentals’ 7” in our webstore alongside our own ‘Town
Topic EP’.
The STSNC
Instrumentals is a 10 track long instrumental record that Casiotone
for the Painfully Alone recorded for the soundtrack to the movie ‘Stay
The Same Never Change’ by Laurel Nakadate.
Casiotone even wrote and recorded the kids ringtones in the film which
are included here on this 7”. The
record is limited to just 300 copies worldwide so is super limited.
It is also pressed on ‘random colour’ vinyl, my personal
copy is pink/gray marble swirled, what will yours be?!

Casiotone
for the Painfully Alone
is the musical alias of 30 year old American film school drop-out Owen
Ashworth. Ashworth began his intricate
ventures into abstract emotional music in 1997 after he realized
that song-making was a far more cost-effective means of storytelling
than film-making. To date, he has produced 4 CFTPA albums, released
through Tomlab, that have defined a hybrid strain
of raw, emotional and very homemade synth pop, this is instantly
recognizable as his own. Claustrophobic two-minute
character studies shuddered with reverbed beats, blown-out chords and
simple but infectious melodies, all layered beneath Ashworth’s
bittersweet lyrical odes to love lost.
