By Nick Christian Backstage afterwards, once the crowds (minus a few determined young groupies) have dispersed and the band has cooled down, I get a chance to talk to Shaw and Haines individually. The guitarist, stubby of Stella in hand, is feeling the buzz of having given everything to a performance and been rewarded. ‘It’s hard for people interviewing us, because we’re so close as a band that we find ourselves inadvertently making jokes and excluding them. But without that closeness, we wouldn’t be the same band.’ I
ask if the stage dive was planned. Haines’ answer is simple: ‘No,
I just looked into their faces and could see that I could trust them.
I could see that they wouldn’t let me fall.’ |
