SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #12

Arriving in sometimes sunny Brighton by way of Belfast, HELIOPAUSE make beautiful, meditative, multi-textural psychedelic folk, with a kind of fevered hunger rarely seen in an acoustic two-piece. This is not a band merely going through the motions; writing songs just so they can play gigs; Rich and Niall of Heliopause make the music they make because it's what they have to do... if you boiled down the bones in large cylindrical vat, you most likely see the pattern E A D G B E etched into their DNA.
Giving away free copies of their phenomenal debut album, "Walk Into The Sea", we can think of no better band to kick of the first day of our festival than HELIOPAUSE.

SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #11

Newly reformed as a 3 piece, the impossibly ephemeral dream pop band, US BABY BEAR BONE, are sure to make Brighton drop everything and listen when they play the final night of Sea Monsters 2 on Saturday. Creating tracks not unlike those of CocoRosie, WHY?, and other longtime OIB favourites, the band are clearly not afraid of exploring new sounds and ideas.
Listening to their music you find yourself enlightened into dreamy world of acoustics, powerful drum beats and haunting yet gentle vocals. The ethereal vibes emitting from every corner of Us Baby Bear Bones is enough to persuade anyone to become captivated into their enchanting world during their shows.

SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #10

The evolution of BLACK BLACK HILLS over the last few years has been super exciting to observe. We've watched like a breathless Attenbourough as their sound has shifting from angular post-punk oddity to the superbly-slick, anthemic beat-led crooner explosion that they display one Sea Monsters, with their dark, paranoid single "The Celebration".
The band were invited to play a BBC Introducing live session and The Celebration (in all it's terrifying, "The Mask"-esque glory) was added to the Radio 1 daytime playlist after BBC Introducing featured them on their under the radar music section back in October. It's full steam ahead for Black Black Hills in 2012, like a speeding bullet-train...

SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #9
NEGATIVE PEGASUS are definitely part of the louder end of the sonic rainbow of Sea Monsters 2... Their aural-assault comprises dualling guitars used more as conduits for feedback than as "musical" instruments, and the echo-drenched drums are prehistoricly pounded out like a mammoth bone on a cave floor.

Featuring ex-members of The Special Relationship, and OIB Records own My Device, we're very excited to see what Neg Peg get up to in 2012, and if you like it loud, you'd be under good advisement to stake out a spot in the crowd, let your body go limp, and feel the waves of noise relentless wash over your fragile body...

SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #8
Cinemascopes are thoroughly welcomed aboard the Sea Monsters Festival bill this year, having been a live favourite of the OIB team through their genesis and long journey further and further down the kraut-rock rabbit hole over the past two years. Equal parts Thurston Moore, Vangelis, Ennio Morricone, and Television, Cinemascopes like nothing more than to let their eyes roll back into their heads vibe their way around a meditative slack-rock jam..
Featuring members of other Sea Monsters endorsed acts, Nullifier, and Speak Galactic, CINEMASCOPES are an absolute must for all fans of Kurt Vile, Can, and the darker side of the dying breath of chillwave...

SEA MONSTERS 2 - ARTIST PROFILE #7

American born composer and multi-instrumentalist ROBERT STILLMAN, has long been an OIB favourite for his unique, esoteric melding of performance and medium We like his music so much, in 2011 we proudly released 'Machine's Song'; a full length album and concept piece. A repertoire of music for the one man band, realised in solo performance and recording, the music of ‘Machine’s Song’ focused on the notion of Uncanny in musical automata, one-man-band performance, and multi-track tape composition. Like Robert Stillman’s past compositional work, Machine’s Song combined pre-jazz American folk-form, surreal sound-collage, and evocative, unfolding melodies... it's baffling, and obscure, and wonderful in a hundred different ways.
Utilising a mix of archaic or ‘dead’ technology, consumer-line equipment, and modern studio tools, much of Stillman's compositional work is done in a mobile, field-recording style of instruments over long periods of time, resulting in final products that are a hypothetical time-space. Live, the one-man-band comes together with visuals and quiet contemplation. Step inside the musical time-machine, and drift... and dream...
